We haven’t met yet. I’m Vanessa, and I’m the new Digital Director here at Caring Across.

When I started about a month ago, the program that impressed me most was the Care Fellowship, which empowers people affected by our broken care system to advocate for the changes that would actually help them.

Next week, we’re launching a big fundraising campaign to raise $5,000 in support of the Care Fellowship. We’ll spend next week talking about the Fellows’ accomplishments and what we can achieve by expanding the program (which we’re going to do dramatically this year!).

We believe the Care Fellows have the power to change the system from the ground up. In the past three years, 55 Care Fellows have gone through the program, and in that time, they have:

• Interviewed for countless news pieces, including features in the New York Times and on Good Morning America;
• Led advocacy visits to their state and federal elected officials to talk about the importance of HCBS in their lives;
• Hosted rallies in DC, urging Congress to invest in care;
• Appeared on billboards encouraging people to think differently about care;
• Met with President Biden and other leaders to advocate for timely investments in care.

And we’ve got even bigger plans for this year, including state-based Fellowship cohorts and even more training to become effective storytellers. Plus, we’ll have the biggest Fellowship class we’ve ever had, with nearly 100 fellows in the program at one time!
