Biden’s Proposed Gas Tax Gimmick Won’t Bring Down Gas Prices – Americans need relief from historic gas prices, but President Biden’s latest gimmick won’t provide it. Gas is almost $3 more expensive per gallon today than when Joe Biden took office, and his latest “solution” is a temporary measure to lower prices 18 cents. While taxes fundamentally increase the cost of all goods, Americans who are struggling intuitively see this move for the unserious response that it is. The White House isn’t offering real solutions, only gimmicks and attacks on American energy. The Biden administration has consistently pursued an anti-oil regulatory agenda designed to end America’s use of conventional fuels like oil and natural gas. This has caused prices at the pump to skyrocket since Biden took office.Heritage Expert: Katie Tubb and Derrick Morgan
On Eve of Roe v. Wade Reversal, Poll Shows Americans Want to Protect Unborn - Stories of resilience and hope emerge even in the darkest times. In its 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court created and imposed a policy for killing babies in the womb, one of the most extreme in the world, which the American people never chose for themselves. A large and consistent majority of Americans, however, has not been duped by 50 years of unrelenting propaganda, misdirection, and spin. The latest polling adds evidence that ought to encourage and guide the pro-life movement should the Supreme Court correct its error and overrule Roe with its expected decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Heritage Expert: Thomas Jipping
Apprenticeships, Not College, Can Help Reduce Unemployment - Apprenticeships have also proved a successful alternative. A 2017 study from researchers at Burning Glass Technologies and Harvard Business School estimated the “true scope or potential for apprenticeships in the U.S.” They found that the number of occupations commonly filled through these programs could nearly triple (to 74 from 27); the number of job openings filled could expand eightfold (to 3.2 million) and the occupations ripe for apprenticeship expansion would offer 20% higher wages than traditional apprenticeship occupations. SEC’s in-house enforcement action ruled to be unconstitutional - Two statues outside the Federal Trade Commission depict a muscle-bound man wrestling an equally muscular horse. Called Man Controlling Trade, the statuary dates back to the New Deal era when commerce (the horse) was seen as a dangerous force, and the government (the man) a powerful savior. Were the statues commissioned today, the man would be more accurately represented as a bespectacled pencil-pusher. But make no mistake: That wonky bureaucrat is far more powerful than the strapping stone man of yesteryear. He’d have that rambunctious horse hog-tied with red tape in no time. The Los Angeles Declaration Is Bad News for the U.S. Border - In the Los Angeles Declaration, the United States commits to resettling 20,000 refugees from the Americas over the next two years: that’s roughly the number of illegal crossers U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers encounter every three days. The United States will also “increase settlement of Haitian refugees,” without specifying a number. Unfortunately, these various increases to the legal pathways are not balanced by any effort to make illegal immigration less attractive. They are unlikely to divert the latest mass “caravan” of migrants, many thought to be from Venezuela, that was headed north to our border even as the conference was taking place. Biden Administration to Force Schools to Adopt Radical Gender Policies. Here’s What You Need to Know. - Parents should be at the center of conversations with their children about their sexuality. Some state agencies, however, have adopted policies that prohibit teachers from telling parents when a child is confused about his or her sex. In response, lawmakers in other states, such as Florida, have adopted policies that say parents must be part of any health or medical decisions made regarding their school-aged children. State policymakers around the country are considering similar “parents’ bills of rights.” Heritage Expert: Jonathan Butcher
The U.S. Response To War On Ukraine Needs Work – Since Russia launched its most recent invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the United States and NATO have provided political, military, economic, and other forms of aid and support to Ukraine. While well-intentioned, Washington could improve the types, quantity, and velocity of the aid it provides to Kyiv. Kyiv’s ability to defeat Moscow’s unjust invasion it critical to defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, but also to returning stability to Easter Europe, protecting the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and re-establishing deterrence against Russian nationalist ambitions fomented by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Democrats Cynically Cite Veterans Benefit Increase to Urge More Spending Elsewhere - The Senate last week passed an amended version of the Honoring Our PACT Act. The bill, likely to pass the House, represents the largest expansion of benefits for veterans in decades. In a crass display of political opportunism, however, congressional Democrats are claiming that increasing spending on veterans justifies spending increases for unrelated nondefense programs. Such “logic” would be confusing in normal times, but is grossly negligent during the worst inflation crisis in decades. Heritage Experts: David Ditch and Frederico Bartels
