If Shell wins the case, they’ll start wreaking havoc with a precious marine ecosystem again. Their ruinous hunt for new fossil fuels involves detonating blasts that send shockwaves through the ocean. These blasts are louder than a space shuttle launch and repeat every 10 seconds for 5 whole months.
Experts have warned that detonations of this magnitude will devastate marine life and threaten endangered species like humpback whales. [3] To make matters worse - this environmental destruction will also disrupt the local communities that depend on eco-tourism and fishing for their livelihoods.
Coastal communities and environmental groups including Greenpeace Africa are trying to stop Shell in court and we all need to stand with them. If enough of us add our names to the petition, we can show the courts that there isn’t just a local opposition to Shell, but an international outcry too.
If hundreds and thousands of us from across the globe speak out on this, people will take notice. So John, will you make your voice heard?
