Hi John,

Remember when people power forced Shell to stop blasting shockwaves into a precious whale breeding ground off the Wild Coast of South Africa? I sent you a few emails about it at the time. [1]

Well, unfortunately, the oil giants aren’t going down without a fight. They’re back in court fighting to resume their destructive search for new oil and gas. [2]

Stop Shell
Sign the petition to show the scale of international opposition to Shell’s destructive plans

If Shell wins the case, they’ll start wreaking havoc with a precious marine ecosystem again. Their ruinous hunt for new fossil fuels involves detonating blasts that send shockwaves through the ocean. These blasts are louder than a space shuttle launch and repeat every 10 seconds for 5 whole months.

Experts have warned that detonations of this magnitude will devastate marine life and threaten endangered species like humpback whales. [3] To make matters worse - this environmental destruction will also disrupt the local communities that depend on eco-tourism and fishing for their livelihoods.

Coastal communities and environmental groups including Greenpeace Africa are trying to stop Shell in court and we all need to stand with them. If enough of us add our names to the petition, we can show the courts that there isn’t just a local opposition to Shell, but an international outcry too.

If hundreds and thousands of us from across the globe speak out on this, people will take notice. So John, will you make your voice heard?

At the start of the year, 250,000 people signed our huge petition and stood shoulder to shoulder with the local communities fighting back against Shell. Signatories shone an international spotlight on the environmental destruction Shell was threatening and supported the local activists who halted the oil giants in the courts.

To stop Shell for good this week, we need to step it up, show more support and add thousands more names to our people-powered petition. The stakes are simply too high to sit this one out - we need you to help make the difference this time around.

We don't accept any money from companies or governments so we can be independent and challenge anyone who threatens the planet or peace. To help us keep fighting climate change, defending our oceans and protecting ancient forests, you can become a monthly supporter today. Thank you.
