Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH)

WEEKLY DIGEST

Homeless Prevention & Response System Advisory Council Work Session & Monthly Meeting, June 22th, 2022 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

To include a special presentation on Voting Equity and Ranked Choice Voting Education

Why is ranked choice voting education important?

Persons experiencing homelessness are focused on acquiring what they need for survival on a day-to-day basis. Actively seeking out information on the new process of ranked choice voting probably will not be on that list. Our goal is to equip direct-service providers to educate their clients on ranked choice voting.

Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank candidates in the general election in order of preference, which gives voters more voice in their representation and ensures candidates win office with majority support.

HPRS Advisory Council meets on the 4th Thursday of every month to discuss relevant Anchorage Continuum of Care initiatives and current events. The Homeless Prevention & Response System (HPRS) Advisory Council is the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) designated governing body for the Anchorage Continuum of Care (CoC).

Statement in response to the end of the facilitated process.

June 17, 2022

Anchorage, AK – The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH) was brought into the Facilitated Workgroup in December ’21 to provide subject matter expertise in implementing the Mass Care Exit Strategy. The Complex Care Facility for medically fragile individuals and the Workforce and Supportive Housing at the GuestHouse are planks of the exit strategy that ACEH successfully implemented and continues to support. Communication and compromise are necessary for any meaningful facilitation and ACEH will continue to work with service providers and other entities dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness with dignity, respect, and compassion.
