My first Pride Parade changed my life.

It was the early 90's. I was shy. But marching in that crowd, I felt the power and joy of our community. I felt a part of something bigger than just me.

The people marching in that parade were angry. They were demanding accountability, attention, and answers for the AIDS crisis. But they were also embodying joy — fearlessly asserting their right to have happy, full, and healthy lives.

Now, almost 30 years later, I'm married and raising a daughter with my incredible wife Amy. But I still carry the feelings that were sparked by my first Pride Parade.

That same mix of emotions will be with me on Sunday when I walk in Chicago's Pride Parade. On the one hand, I'm angry that in many states the LGBTQ+ community continues to be ostracized and maligned. But I also feel our collective joy so strongly. I treasure the strength of refusing to make ourselves quieter or smaller or more palatable for others.

Most of all: I'm committed to seeing our fight through. So, John, will you help me keep fighting for Chicago's LGBTQ+ community by supporting my reelection campaign?

Thank you for all your support — and Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🎉
