Dear Friends,
To ensure our nation’s seniors can retire with dignity, we need to strengthen the three legs on the stool of a secure retirement – personal savings, pensions, and Social Security. Last week, I joined State Treasurer Shawn Wooden and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the Secretary of Labor’s Representative for Pensions and Retirement, at Hartford Public Library for a conversation on how we can advance solutions for all three.
Below, you can view my opening remarks, and you can watch the full roundtable here. I also recently co-authored an op-ed with Treasurer Wooden in the Hartford Courant.
Now is the time to protect Social Security and adjust benefits to better reflect the costs seniors face. I introduced Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust to provide a benefit bump for all beneficiaries and improve the annual cost-of-living adjustment to make benefits more resilient to inflation.
On the state level, the Comptroller’s office has launched MyCTSavings, offering private sector workers the chance to begin saving for retirement even if they do not have access to a retirement plan through their employer. You can learn more about the program and how to enroll at myCTsavings.com.
I am committed to doing everything I can to fix America’s retirement savings crisis and ensure our nation’s seniors can retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work.
