Yesterday Georgia Election Official Shayne Moss and her mother, Lady Ruby, gave heartbreaking testimony to the January 6th Select Committee about having been targeted by President Trump as part of his Big Lie conspiracy.

Shayne Moss represents the best of America. Before Election Day 2022, she took pride in her work and went above and beyond to help the members of her community successfully vote. Moss described how she used to love making house calls, even to hospitals, to help older voters fill out registration forms or absentee ballot requests.

That all changed after Election Day 2020 when Moss’s mother handed her a ginger mint while processing votes. Trump, The 147, and their allies took video footage of the innocent interaction and then lied to their supporters and told them the mint in question was actually a USB full of fraudulent votes.

The harassment has been so vicious, violent, and unrelenting that it continues to this day. Moss has had to meet with the FBI to discuss threats against her life. She refuses to go out in public with her mother in case they’re recognized. Moss is even afraid to run simple errands like going to the grocery store. It goes without saying that she is no longer working as an election official.

Election officials and volunteers like Shayne Moss are the hardworking Americans that make our elections run. They’re the ones checking you in at your local precinct, printing out the ballots, and handing out the “I Voted” stickers. In 2020, they were the ones that stood up to The 147, to the president himself, to provide an accurate vote count.

Today, we’re standing up for them.
