*Governor Laura Kelly Visits Emporia to Highlight Improvements in Lifelong Care in Kansas *

*
EMPORIA* – Today, Governor Laura Kelly highlighted the strides Kansas is making in lifelong care during visits to an early childhood development center and a senior care facility in Emporia.

"We are focused on ensuring Kansans of all ages have the support and resources they need to have happy, full lives,” *Governor Laura Kelly said. *"Both the early childhood development center and senior care facility I visited today are proof that communities like Emporia are making strides in how they care for Kansans at all stages of life."

At her first stop, Governor Kelly joined Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education, and leaders from the Emporia Unified School District 253 to celebrate the grand opening of the Jones Early Childhood Development Center, a new early learning center, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour. The Center is the district's flagship facility to support the community's youngest learners. It was funded through a $78 million bond that district voters approved in November of 2019.

Governor Kelly then toured Sunflower Care Homes, a new “home+” facility for senior citizens in Emporia that opened its doors on Monday, June 20.  The facility is taking an innovative approach to elder care: It will encourage multi-generational community by having a daycare facility onsite for the children of staff and local residents.
