Reproductive Justice Sign-On Statement and LTBA Advocacy

Dear Allies,

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule any day now in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, reversing the landmark Roe v. Wade decision securing the right to reproductive liberty. This week, we are sharing an important opportunity for members of the Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition to voice their support for reproductive justice. We also have an opportunity for organizations to engage in advocacy efforts around the LIFT the BAR Act. Continue reading for more.

Reproductive Justice Sign-on Statement

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to act as soon as tomorrow to reverse a half-century of reproductive health and justice protections, by striking down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The expected ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization will hit immigrants and their families especially hard. Some PIF member organizations have fought to protect this fundamental human right. Understanding that member organizations may have different perspectives on this ruling, it is important that all PIF members have an opportunity to speak on an issue that disproportionally impacts immigrant families. We invite interested member organizations to sign onto this statement expressing solidarity, reaffirming our shared commitment to ensuring that everyone can get the care and aid they need to thrive, and urging policymakers to act to restore reproductive justice.

We must act quickly to assure immigrant families that they are not alone and remind politicians that they will be held accountable, so we will post the statement to the PIF site as soon as SCOTUS rules. To ensure that member organizations have time to sign on if they choose, we will leave this statement open for signature through the end of this week, closing on Friday at Midnight, HDT. Thank you for your support.

Meet with Your Member of Congress to Support LIFT the BAR Act!

As you know, PIF is invested in helping promote the LIFT the BAR Act.  We are asking PIF member organizations to schedule meetings with friendly Congressional offices to advocate for co-sponsoring the LTBA. We’re trying to gain as many cosponsors as we can before members leave D.C. for the August recess so that we can have broad support and hopefully get LTB included and passed as part of upcoming bill packages. We want to make this as easy as a lift as possible for partners that are interested, so we are more than happy to coordinate logistics and providing any other support that may be helpful. Please contact Juan Gomez of CLASP ([email protected]) if your organization is interested in holding a Zoom meeting with Congressional offices.

We know that this is a busy time for many, so if you cannot commit to meetings but would still like to send emails to encourage members to sign on, we have a toolkit here which includes a draft email template here for you to use as well as our updated organizational sign on letter with 750+ cosigners.

Please view this list to see which offices we are reaching out to!

In Solidarity,

Adriana Cadena & Cheasty Anderson, on behalf of the PIF Team
