Friend,

This Giving Tuesday, I want to share with you the story of an organization founded in Georgia, whose impact is profound and earnestly needed in America today.

I am talking about the Black Women’s Health Imperative. Before reading any further, if you are short on time and would just like to make a donation, you can do so here.

The conception of the Black Women’s Health Imperative began at a conference at Spelman College, Atlanta’s historically Black college for women in 1983. For more than 35 years, BWHI has cultivated a national network of local organizations that are dedicated to health policy, education, research, and leadership development for America’s 19.5 million Black women and girls.

BWHI’s actions over 35 years have thrust racial- and gender-based health disparities to the forefront of America’s healthcare conversation. It is in this capacity that BWHI and its leadership have driven forward new ideas, created solutions, and built coalitions extending far beyond that first conference to advance the cause of racial- and gender-based health equity, and for that I am grateful.

No one candidate or campaign can accomplish the change we need to see without the leadership of organizations like BWHI. Their extraordinary board and staff, who are invested in programs and initiatives to realize the excellence of Black women and girls across our country, makes them a unique and vital agent for change in America’s fabric.

In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, please make a donation to the Black Women’s Health Initiative to help further their critical work. Your contribution, no matter how small, makes a world of difference.
