Delegates attending the American Federation of Government Employees’ 42nd National Convention here have reelected the union’s top three national officers.
National President Dr. Everett Kelley, National Secretary-Treasurer Eric Bunn Sr., and National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices Jeremy Lannan all were reelected to their positions today during AFGE’s convention.
“I’m humbled and honored that AFGE’s delegates have placed their faith in me to lead this federation for another term,” Kelley said. “Our time is now to secure a better future for the dedicated public-sector employees we represent and all the hard-working Americans we serve every day.”
Kelley won the top office with 57.7% of the vote, while AFGE District 3 National Vice President Phil Glover received 42.3% percent of the vote. Kelley has served as National President since February 2020 and has been a member of AFGE since 1981. He previously was National Secretary-Treasurer and before that was National Vice President for AFGE District 5.
In the race for National Secretary-Treasurer, Bunn won with 52.45% of the vote, while former NST Jim Davis received 47.55% percent of the vote. Bunn was elected NST in April 2020 after serving three consecutive terms as District 14 National Vice President. He has been a labor union activist for more than 35 years.
Lannan was reelected National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices with 58.08% percent of the vote. Ceretta Smith, who currently serves as national fair practices affirmative action coordinator for AFGE District 5, received 41.92% of the vote. Lannan was first elected to the position in August 2018, following two decades of public service and labor activism at the local, district, council, and national levels.
More than 1,400 delegates are attending the convention, which will conclude on Friday, serving the interests of 700,000 federal and D.C. government employees represented by AFGE.
