John,
If you didn’t see the news, the Senate announced bipartisan gun safety legislation. In short, here’s what’s included in the legislation:
*Major federal funding to build out red flag laws, community violence intervention programs, community mental health grants, school safety grants, and more.
*Significant steps toward closing the “boyfriend loophole” that allowed people convicted with domestic violence to still buy firearms.
*Rigorous background checks for anyone purchasing long guns under 21.
*New federal criminal offenses on gun trafficking and reselling that will help combat guns being shipped from state to state.
*And lastly, an update to our background checks statutes to strengthen the process.
This is significant progress in the right direction. And while Senator Durbin and Senate Democrats know it’s not enough, we must get this legislation passed now.
Will you sign on now and call on the Senate to pass this legislation to help curb gun violence in America? [link removed]
Thank you,
Team Durbin
