Neighbors and Friends,
I want to close out this race with a few heart-felt thoughts.
I first want to say congratulations to Zachary Parker for winning the Ward 5 seat on the Council on the District of Columbia. I wish him the best on his journey.
Secondly, and most passionately, I want to thank all the people who supported me. Whether you made a donation, volunteered, offered encouragement, endorsed me, hosted an event, or helped in any other way, I am truly grateful. This run would not have been possible without you and I am humbled that nearly 3,000 people voted for me and my vision for a stronger Ward 5.
There have been so many positive outcomes from this race. I met thousands of neighbors, heard fascinating stories and learned from many what they want for their neighborhood and our ward. Not only did I make new friends and strengthen long-term relationships around the ward, I connected neighbors to each other and bridged diverse communities. We built a broader community of people who love our ward and love the idea of being good neighbors to each other. That, for me, is a huge win.
I will say I was disappointed to see that such a small percentage of our neighbors voted. Of the 50,000 registered democrats in Ward 5, only about 12,400 people voted. Our communities deserve to be heard and a part of the process of making our ward a place where everyone can thrive. We all have a part to play in that vision. It is not enough for us to place all of our hope in one leader, even if we voted for them. And if the person we voted for didn't get elected, we still have to stay engaged and fight for what our communities deserve.
Moving forward, I am inspired to help more of our neighbors feel like they are a valued part of our community, and to get more of us engaged in the work to make Ward 5 great for everyone. I hope you will join me.
Words matter. Commitment matters. You have my word that my commitment to our Ward 5, and our entire city, will not end with this race. I thank each of you for being a part of this journey and I strongly encourage you to stay engaged as we continue to move Ward 5 forward together.
In partnership,
Faith Gibson Hubbard
