Help us celebrate a VITA win by pushing for funding! No images? Click here Dear John, In case you missed it, VITA (the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program) funding for next year is off to a great start in the appropriations process— the House Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee released their draft 2023 funding bill last week calling for VITA funding at $35 million! This is an impressive $5 million increase over last year. A huge congrats to you all for your advocacy—what an awesome first step! But our work is not done yet. As the legislation moves through Congress, we will need your energy, passion, and voices to be heard. Keeping VITA viable and strong is a first step to giving families a tax refund that can be a lifeline for their financial stability. Increasing VITA funding would help sites hire more staff to coordinate the program, increase their capacity to recruit more volunteers and add new locations in historically excluded low-income communities of color. As this bill makes its way through Congress, we must continue to fight for increased funding for this critical program. Please email your Members of Congress and ask that they support increased VITA funding at $35 million! Questions? Please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for your ongoing advocacy! Joanna Ain |
