Friends – One of my favorite parts of my job is meeting people from all across Maryland.

Connecting with people, hearing their concerns, and finding ways to help is what this job is about. And throughout this campaign, I’ve spoken with thousands of Marylanders about everything from reforming our criminal justice system in order to improve public safety, to defending reproductive rights, to protecting our environment.

But from Prince George’s to Frederick to Wicomico, there is one consistent question that I hear all the time: Why are you running? I want to take a break from fundraising to answer and let you know why I’m in this race.

When I hear this question, I think of my parents, both immigrants to the United States, and the values they instilled in me. My father was the first in his family to ever attend college, and my parents’ sacrifice and dedication made an impression on me as a child. Their emphasis on service is what lead me to the United States Army, where I proudly served our country for 30 years.

My father treated patients in some of the poorest hospitals near where I grew up and showed me the importance of serving others and being a champion for the vulnerable. I’m passing along his lessons to my children.

As a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, I served over three decades in the military including time as an aviator and JAG officer.

My service has taken many forms: as a young Lieutenant in the United States Army, a JAG officer deploying to Iraq in 2004 and earning a Bronze Star, as Maryland’s Lt. Governor, as a Congressman serving on the House Armed Services Committee, and as your candidate for Attorney General.

Patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve the common good are values shared by generations of veterans, and it’s fueled my career in public service since my first election to the Maryland House of Delegates. It’s also why I’m running for Attorney General; traveling all across our state, listening to Marylanders when they tell me their most urgent needs, and leading the fight to help.

As your Attorney General, I promise to continue this dedication to serving our great state.

Thank you for your support,

Anthony
