The Senate voted Tuesday night to officially start debate on the bipartisan gun reform package, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The package was drafted by Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX) with an additional 18 senators evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans. The Senate will begin a process of considering the bill that may last several days depending.

The White House announced that President Joe Biden is planning to travel to the Middle East for four days in July with visits scheduled for Israel, the West Bank, and Saudi Arabia.

The trip represents an effort to reassure allies in the region and also repair the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia, which has been frayed due to human rights concerns and the energy crisis.
