Last night, the Senate released the Safer Communities Act, the bipartisan bill that, if passed, will mark the most consequential federal gun violence prevention policies we have seen in 30 years.
This is a meaningful first step as we usher in a new era of our movement, where we can begin to pass meaningful federal legislation to save lives – but only if Congress passes this bill into law.

I have been fighting for 17 years, since my mom was shot and killed, for change like this. Finally, after constant cries for change from our communities, we are seeing action. This bill addresses gun violence as the multifaceted epidemic that it is and it will save countless lives – and it has the support it needs to pass.
But within minutes of the language being released, the NRA wasted no time at all coming out in opposition of this bill, despite its overwhelming bipartisan support.
