Friend, Plastic waste is flooding our landfills, parks and oceans, with little sign of slowing down. And even when plastics are made to be recycled, less than 10% actually make it through the recycling process.1 Keurig Dr Pepper is one of the leading beverage companies in North America and has the opportunity to lead the industry into a plastic-free future. The company has taken small steps to reduce plastic waste in the past, like making Keurig's K-Cup pods recyclable.2 But just because a product is made to be recycled doesn't mean it's staying out of landfills. Tell Keurig Dr Pepper: Take the plastic packaging out of your products and make K-Cups plastic-free. Keurig Dr Pepper owns not only the two titular brands, but also 7-Up, Canada Dry, A&W, Evian and Snapple. By one estimate, the company used 208,000 metric tons of plastic packaging in 2018.3 Keurig Dr Pepper announced its plans to reduce virgin plastic use by 20% by 2025, and while this is a small step in the right direction, it's not nearly enough compared to the mountains of plastic waste that are produced every day. And other major beverage companies have already committed to go further.4 Ultimately we need to shift away from plastic packaging. Recycled plastic bottles can't be continuously recycled. Plastic degrades during the recycling process, meaning recycling plastic bottles only delays their landfill-bound fate.5 Call on Keurig Dr Pepper to do better and end the plastic packaging of its products. We can't let these companies keep falling short of effectively tackling the plastic waste crisis. U.S. PIRG is committed to moving our world beyond plastic. From calling on corporations to eliminate single-use plastics to advocating for federal and state legislation, we're working to address the plastic crisis at every level. But our power comes from our community -- people who care about protecting the future of the planet, people just like you, Friend. That's why we need your help to call on Keurig Dr Pepper to eliminate single-use plastics from its products. If we can gather enough voices, we can convince Keurig Dr Pepper to take these plastics out of its products and spark an industry-wide shift. Thank you for taking action, Faye Park | |
