Dear John,

I’m in charge of digital media for NCTE, so it’s my job to keep our online community up to date on what’s happening around the country when it comes to trans rights. I also have a front-row seat to the anti-trans attacks on our children. Just in the last few weeks, we’ve seen shameful bans on kids playing sports in both Louisiana and Ohio – even though Ohio only has a single trans girl playing sports. (Her name is Ember, and she's on the softball team. She deserves better).

As states abuse their power to target us, I track the online hate that targets our community – but I also see so much righteous anger, love, and power in the way we, as trans people, respond.

I see young trans kids refusing to stay silent. They are so brave, but they shouldn’t have to be. They should be able to play sports with their friends and have fun like any other kid.
