Today, we are thrilled to announce our next candidate of 2022: Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, running for an open seat in Pennsylvania State House District 129! PA is a perennial battleground state from the federal level all the way down the ticket, and the midterms this year are no different. Read on to learn more about Johanny, and find out what you can do to help right now.

MEET JOHANNY CEPEDA-FREYTIZ
In 2007, Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, her husband Felix, and their two children relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania, becoming entrepreneurs and establishing Mi Casa Su Casa Café in the heart of downtown. They’ve called the area home ever since, and she has served as City Councilwoman of District 6 since January 2019.  Born in New York City, leaving briefly to attend school in the Dominican Republic from age 9 to 14, Johanny has always had a passion for education. She obtained a Master of Science in Education degree and became a bilingual guidance counselor, helping her students and the community reach their goals.

WHY PENNSYLVANIA IS IMPORTANT
Pennsylvania narrowly voted for Joe Biden in 2020, and its newly-enacted state legislative maps create clear opportunities for flipping the PA Senate blue. The state’s governorship is also open this year, which is especially critical because the Governor will appoint the next Secretary of State. Pennsylvania is also a critical state for democracy protection – GOP legislators and operatives there have been intent on pursuing election subversion and sowing seeds of distrust in election administration.
