Dear Friend,

We’ve just heard there will be an inquiry into Parliament’s corrections system. This is important news.

Currently, there is no way for an MP who is not a government Minister to correct the official record when they make a mistake in the House of Commons. This includes Shadow Ministers and high profile MPs.

It sounds nonsensical, but it’s true. And we can’t have honest political debate in this country while the official record remains littered with false or misleading claims.

Earlier this year Full Fact launched our petition calling for a fix to Parliament’s broken system. More than 26,000 people joined us to ask that MPs take a stand for honest debate.

And MPs heard us. Today’s news is a step in the right direction.

The Procedure Committee is a group of MPs who consider and make recommendations on different matters in the House of Commons, including how to handle correcting the official record.

Their new inquiry is recognition from MPs that Parliament’s corrections system is broken. As the committee conducts its review, this is a chance to show how many of us care about honest political debate.

Can you help by signing our petition today?

Yes, I'm in
We're very grateful for your support.

Best wishes,

Ross Haig—Head of Communications
