I have co-sponsored legislation which seeks to maintain limits of maximum interest deductions for business each year to 30% of a business's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). 

My support for manufacturers is steadfast. I have always supported the business community and will continue to reinforce this support by voting for and cosponsoring legislation that makes it easier for manufacturers to thrive.

I was presented with a flag that was flown over the Alamo in honor of being an original cosponsor of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act. Thank you, San Antonio, for commemorating this important holiday.

I announced almost $9.2 million in federal funding for the reimbursement of summer meals for students in Laredo. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I vow to keep working to increase the funding for child nutrition programs to ensure that our children keep receiving the nourishment they require. 

I met with the Texas Farm Bureau 2021 Free Enterprise Speech Contest finalists. This is an annual competition that allows students to earn scholarships, gain valuable communication skills, and develop leadership abilities.

I met with representatives from the Texas Beverage Association to discuss supply chain issues and the SNAP program, which provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budgets of underserved families.

I attended the Library of Congress for the promotion of my friend's, H.W. Brands, new book, Our First Civil War. Check it out. 

I met with students from Close Up. Close Up programs seek to educate, inspire and empower students by providing them with the skills and experience they need to become active citizens in our democracy.

I met with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Texas South Texas and Texas Coastal Bend Chapters. ABC prides itself of being the voice of the merit shop in the construction industry in Texas.

I met with a small assembly of family business owners, including Bill Rankin of Blue Bell Creameries, hoping to discuss trust and estate tax provisions, as well as tax provisions impacting small and family businesses.

This year, 125 high school-aged students earned an all-expense paid trip to our Nation’s Capital by winning either a speech or essay contest sponsored by their local electric cooperatives. I met with one of the winners from Texas. Congratulations.

I met with 2 Dreamers from Laredo. Both of them are high school teachers in Laredo at UISD. They shared with me that they have lived their entire lives in South Texas—and have no family nor home to go back to if deported.

My Laredo Outreach Coordinator, Melissa Pena, attended a ribbon cutting for the new Laredo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce where she presented a Congressional Certificate of Recognition to the chamber. 

My Rio Grande Valley Outreach Coordinator, Nicolas Cruz, attended the 2022 Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction Awards. The event recognizes women who have excelled through their careers while also being active in their communities.

Melissa attended a food distribution at La Presa Community Center where, in collaboration with the South Texas Food Bank, she handed out food to more that 100 families in need.

Nicolas attended the Starr Health Service Advisory Committee Meeting. The meeting focused on AVANCE, a non-profit organization that meets hard to reach, low income families where they are.

Melissa attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Laredo medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation center. Congratulations and thank you for providing cardiac care to our community.
