Hi there

Yesterday's January 6 Committee hearing was alarming, though not surprising. As The New York Times put it, the testimony showed that Donald Trump "sought to bully, cajole and bluff his way into invalidating his 2020 defeat in states around the country." He did it by pressuring and threatening state-level officials - including legislators and Secretaries of State.

The lesson: Individual acts of courage matter. Without the bravery of those officials who stood up to the coordinated pressure campaign, we could have faced a serious constitutional crisis. Instead, American Democracy held together because people of principle stepped up and did the right thing.

As Secretary of State my job is to administer elections fairly, impartially, and honestly - and to resist any political pressure to do otherwise. That's what I've done, and what I'll always continue to do. My opponent and other disinformation activists are hoping to defeat me in November. We can’t let that happen. We need to raise $10k this week to stay on budget. Will you chip in $10 or more now?

As Secretary of State, I have to make judgment calls without regard to political outcomes or attachments. In fact, I've successfully battled my own political party in court on multiple occasions.

The January 6 hearings serve an important purpose. They create a historical record regarding a shameful series of events. But they also create a blueprint for how we can strengthen our democracy.

I look forward to continuing to ensure that our elections are fundamentally fair, accurate, honest and secure. That's the Minnesota way. Will you help to make sure we keep our elections fair by chipping in $10 or more now?

Thanks,

Steve
