The temporary allowance for a virtual option for the 40-Hour Texas Practicum is coming to an end. As of August 1, 2022, the virtual option is no longer authorized. Any students registered for a virtual practicum must complete it by August 1, 2022. After that date, all 40-Hour Texas Practicums must be conducted in person as specified by TREC Rule 535.213(i)(7). The Texas Real Estate Inspector Committee (TREIC) is now accepting applications for a volunteer public member. This member represents the public, and cannot be registered, certified, or licensed by an occupational or regulatory agency in the real estate industry, per TREC Rule 535.206, The Texas Real Estate Inspector Committee.
As outlined in Chapter 1102 of the Texas Occupations Code, the TREIC is an advisory committee appointed by the Commission and is responsible for recommending:
- Rules for licensing the inspectors in Texas, included those related to education, experience, and licensing.
- Required forms or other documentation.
- Fees for applications, examinations, renewals, or any other fee required by law.
- Rules related to standards of practice for real estate inspection.
- Rules establishing a code of professional conduct and ethics for an inspector.
- Any other commission action to provide a high degree of service to and protection of the public in dealing with an inspector.
Applications are due July 15, 2022.

Remember, real estate inspectors licensed in Texas are required to follow the Standards of Practice (SOPs). These SOPs define the minimum requirements for a real estate inspection performed for a prospective buyer or seller of one-to-four family residential dwelling.
