Hi Reader,
So far during this member drive, hundreds of individuals have made donations to ProPublica in support of our relentless journalists and the fearless work they do to uncover abuses of power and breaches of the public trust. I would be so grateful if you would join us today to help ProPublica continue to dig deep into critical issues.
Just last week, ProPublica and FRONTLINE published a report detailing how one educator was driven out of two jobs by a group of parents accusing her of bringing critical race theory to their schools. In April 2021, Cecelia Lewis was planning to begin a job at the Cherokee County School District outside of Atlanta, where she would be their first administrator focused on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. But before she officially started in the role, Lewis, a black woman, became the target of a coordinated campaign of hate and misinformation that followed her even after she had resigned from the position. Our investigation brings to light the way that conservative groups are training communities to take on school districts in a fight against critical race theory and other learning concepts — regardless of whether they are actually being taught.
Investigative journalism is time consuming and expensive, and thanks to the ongoing support of tens of thousands of individuals, we are one of the largest investigative newsrooms in the country. We’ve got active investigations happening all over, including our continuing work with FRONTLINE on extremism in America, our coverage of economic inequality and much more. Join us today to help ensure we have the independence and resources we need to keep going.
Journalism that shines a light on injustice and creates real-world change is powered by our readers, and I hope we can count on you.
Thanks so much,
Jill Shepherd
