Read why work at the United Nations is so important

Hello John

It’s not often in life when your work aligns with what you truly care about. As the most recent addition to the United Nations team at OutRight, my everyday life requires me to work directly with state representatives in order to make sure that the LGBTIQ perspective is included in their agenda – and their vocabulary.

There’s so much access we have with our so-called consultative status, allowing us to advise governments and UN officials. We connect local organizations who face constant discrimination and violence on the ground, to diplomats and officials that have the power to enact life-changing policies.

And there’s nothing I love more about my work at OutRight than being the one that facilitates these bridges and opens those doors.

But without you and your crucial support, we simply couldn’t do it.

It’s Giving Tuesday – a day dedicated for giving to the organizations you love and believe in. The work my colleagues and I do at the UN is crucial to facilitating global change. We are the watchdog, holding national governments accountable for LGBTIQ human rights.

Through a donation of $25 would help sustain the UN program, with additional resources we could accomplish so much more.

With your increased support today, we can bring more voices to the table and make a wider range of egregious realities more visible. More voices mean being invited to important United Nations meetings – giving a wider range of people the necessary advocacy skills and toolkits they need to enact positive change in their local communities.

$4,500 brings a global activist to the UN during Advocacy Week. A hefty cost alone, but $450 or even $45 goes a long way to bringing another person and voice to these important proceedings.

With gratitude and in solidarity,

Luiza

P.S. You can make a bigger impact by making a monthly gift -- it’s a fact: over the course of one year, your monthly gift will add up to more than OutRight's average one-time gift, allowing OutRight to do even more critical work with your donation.
