As we near the end of June, we know that, any day now, one of the 13 opinions the Supreme Court has left to issue will be Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in which the Court is poised to overturn the constitutional protections of abortion rights in Roe v Wade. 

When this happens, 26 states are expected to ban or severely limit abortion access. The conservative movement has spent decades building power at the local and state level to reach this moment, and it’s going to take all of us to fight back. That fight starts at the state level, and fortunately, our friends at Sister District have been hard at work building grassroots progressive power through state legislatures. 

We’re so excited to be partnering with Sister District on a brand new virtual event series. On June 28, we will kick off our State Power Series with “After Roe: Reproductive and Civil Rights Move to States” and we’d love to see you there!

In this important conversation, we’ll discuss what to expect in the aftermath of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, and how the GOP has been working for decades to erode federal civil and reproductive rights, including abortion access. We’ll also strategize about what we can all do next to fight for reproductive rights and justice at the state level in 2022 and beyond.

This will be the first of a four-part series that will feature hosts from Crooked Media, organizers, analysts, elected officials, legal experts, and thought-leaders who are radically reimagining how to build progressive power at the state level. From reproductive justice and trans rights to gun safety and voting rights, critical policies are increasingly coming from state legislatures – not the federal government.

In August, October, and December, the series will feature events focusing on continued election subversion following 2020, why the left has historically under-invested in state legislatures and state power, and how we can reclaim progressive power at the state level to transform lives for the better.
