It’s 2022 and women are still not guaranteed equal rights in the Constitution.
Even though 38 states have ratified the Equal Rights Amendment – enough to satisfy the two-thirds requirement – an arbitrary 7 year time limit on ratification passed in 1972 is keeping it from taking effect.
The Senate can vote to remove this limit and enshrine twenty-four powerful words in our Constitution:
"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."
Americans strongly support a constitutional guarantee of equal rights on the basis of sex.
The House has already passed a resolution eliminating the time limit on the ERA’s ratification. Now, it’s up to the Senate.
Passage of the ERA would be a significant historic victory! It would provide permanent protection against laws that discriminate on the basis of sex and/or gender.
People of quality aren’t afraid of equality.
