John,

I know my team has sent a fair number of emails lately, so I wanted to take a moment to explain why these messages are so important -- especially as we approach our first FEC fundraising deadline of the General Election.

If you don’t have the time to read the whole email, I understand -- but please consider chipping in $3 before signing off.

Here's the truth:

There's been a concerning pattern emerging in our opponent Michelle Steel, and it demonstrates just how high the stakes are in this election.

Outwardly, Steel unapologetically panders to the extreme right. In recent years, we've seen Orange County become a hotbed of aggressive COVID denialism and conspiracies -- not to mention the rise in anti-Asian and antisemitic scapegoating. Steel hasn't just enabled these sentiments, she enflames them.

But behind-the-scenes, Steel sides with corporate interests and engages in shady pay-for-play schemes.

With gas prices skyrocketing -- and less than a year removed from the OC oil spill -- Steel is still on the take from the fossil fuel industry. And just last week, news emerged that she's been investigated for trying to sell public land in Newport for pennies on the dollar to one of her donors without properly informing the public.

When it's time to win votes, Steel plays the MAGA card to solidify power. When she thinks no one is looking, she exploits that power for personal and corporate gain.

Our job is to expose Steel because we have a hunch that our community, including many Republicans, won't stand for these abuses. But doing this will take resources. For our part, the vast majority of our contributions come in on emails like this one -- which is why I need to ask:

Will you make a $3 donation before our first FEC deadline of the General Election on June 30th? We’ll invest it immediately to make sure voters hear the truth about Steel so we can flip this seat.

This race is going to be a sprint, and it will get expensive. Every dollar we invest now will go a long way to helping us win in November.

Thanks in advance for your support,

Jay
