Today, on #GivingTuesday, will you make a help Demand Progress so we don't have to cut back our crucial campaigns? Dear Friend, Hey, folks. David Segal here, the executive director of Demand Progress. And I need to share with you some bad news: This year, we're not where we need to be to make ends meet, and we're on the verge of having to cancel work on the causes you care about the most. I'm in charge of overseeing our campaigns on everything from net neutrality to taking on Wall Street and reining in Trump's war powers. But as executive director, I'm also the bottom line, responsible for managing our budgets and making sure our income matches our expenses. Let me share some specific numbers. By this time last year, we'd raised $457,136 from fundraising emails like this. But this year, we're more than $100,000 behind that pace. If we don't close the gap by the end of the year, we'll have to relook at some of our campaign plans, and one way or another, we'll have to balance our books. I want to be clear. We're always blown away by the support we receive from our members. The drop-off in fundraising this year is just part of the natural cycles of our issues being in the news or not. And no matter what, Demand Progress is not going away. Regardless, as a nonprofit organization, we don't have any venture capitalist investor we can go to for bridge funding. We only have you, our grassroots supporters. In the year ahead, we will face huge battles:
That's just the beginning, and with so much at stake in 2020, we can't afford to finish 2019 in a fundraising hole. That's why I'm asking you today to make a special donation to make sure we don't have to cut back on any of these crucial fights going forward. Will you donate to help bridge the fundraising shortfall? Thanks for your support.
