john,

This year alone, there have been 268 mass shootings. Americans die from guns at a higher rate than almost anywhere else in the world.

It is an epidemic of violence.

But now, the Senate is closer than ever to passing legislation to strengthen gun safety.

Led by Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, a group of 10 Republican and 10 Democratic Senators announced this week that they have the votes to pass bipartisan legislation on a gun safety bill that would be the most meaningful reform in decades.

But the legislation isn’t finalized, and negotiations are still ongoing, so we need to do everything we can to get this deal across the finish line and the bill passed.

Not only does the bill include expanding background checks and bolstering mental health services, it also closes the “boyfriend loophole,” which would ban firearms from abusers in romantic relationships, and from people convicted of stalking — something Senator Klobuchar has championed since 2013.
