Dear Neighbors,
I hope this finds you staying cool. June certainly is flying by. Here?s an update from the Capitol:
House Democrats and Senate Republicans negotiated a budget deal at the end of May in good faith and all parties signed an agreement-$4 million in tax cuts and $4 million in critical investments in schools, nursing homes and law enforcement infrastructure. Unfortunately, Republicans have decided to walk away at a time when Minnesotans were counting on us to invest in our people, improve public safety, and strengthen education. In divided government, Minnesotans expect lawmakers from both parties to work together to get things done and so far we?ve been able to operate this way since 2019. It?s disappointing to me that election year politics seems to be standing in the way to get good things done NOW- like enacting an exemption on Social Security taxes, investments in our schools and students, and more.
Senator Clausen, Rep. Bierman, and I will be hosting a town hall meeting tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Falcon Ridge Middle School to discuss what items were left on the table, what we accomplished, and respond to any questions or concerns. Your input is important to all of us and we appreciate the perspectives of folks in our area. Hope to see you in Apple Valley tomorrow evening.

Post 9/11 Veterans Can Now Apply for Bonus
Minnesota has a long history of approving service bonuses to our Veterans who served in the United States? wars. Starting in 1919 after World War I, through World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and now the Global War on Terrorism.
This year, we passed, and Governor Walz signed, the first-ever Veterans Omnibus Bill including funding for a service bonus payable to eligible Veterans who served from 9/11/01 to 8/30/21. I am honored to support this program for eligible Veterans, currently serving service members, or Veterans' beneficiaries. Learn more here. Applications are due by June 30.
New AEDs for Law Enforcement Vehicles
I recently had the opportunity to celebrate the $18.8 million grant to the U of M with public safety champions to fund a 3-year project which will allow the purchase 8,300 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for law enforcement vehicles that currently do not have one. I was grateful for the chance to say ?thanks? to our public safety workers.
 When EMS and law enforcement work together with the proper tools and training, it means we can better respond to time-sensitive emergencies and save more lives.
