Governor McKee is proud to stand with Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, and the many families across our country who have been affected by gun violence. The Governor’s stance on this issue is clear: Enough is enough. Rhode Island’s new gun safety legislation will:
- Get rid of high-capacity magazines
- Raise the legal age to purchase firearms to 21
- Prohibit people from openly carrying loaded rifles and shotguns in public spaces
Leading up to today’s legislative victory, Governor McKee took additional steps to make Rhode Island schools as safe as possible moving forward.
Governor McKee recently led a coalition of superintendents, Department of Education officials, and Rhode Island State Police leadership to double-down on and make major investments in school safety measures. The McKee administration provided up to $500,000 to all of Rhode Island’s school districts for new safety measures and upgrades to existing systems.
