Hey,

You may have gotten word in the past week about a new bill pre-filed in the South Carolina legislature, H4716, that targets doctors and health care providers who provide life-saving medical care for transgender young people. The bill is the latest political attack against LGBTQ folks, an effort by politicians to override medical science and insist they know better than youth, parents, and doctors what youth need.

I live in Greenville, South Carolina. I know what it’s like to grow up in South Carolina and need positive, affirming, and trustworthy medical care. And I know the harms that a bill like this does from the moment it’s introduced. In the face of triggers like this bill, it’s urgent to underline for trans kids that they are loved, supported, and understood. That’s why I’m glad that the Campaign for Southern Equality team could mobilize quickly – with partners in South Carolina and across the country – to collect messages of support for trans youth in my state and to begin organizing against this dangerous bill.

Today is Giving Tuesday, and your donation to CSE is central to fueling efforts like our Rapid Response organizing against legislation like H4716 in South Carolina. Can you contribute to work like this? Click here to donate – even $3 makes a difference.

There’s a road ahead of us to defeating H4716, and I know that other challenges will emerge in 2020. Organizing - both rapid response and over the long haul - is ultimately a story of what “we” accomplish together, not what any single person or group does. We are proud to be working with an amazing and growing team of organizations to defeat H4716.

Donations from supporters like you help ensure that we can show up – quickly and robustly –  when it matters most.

Please consider taking today, Giving Tuesday, to throw a few bucks this way and funding this critical work. Whatever you can give, $3, $33, or $333, will make a difference.

Thank you,
Ivy Hill
