President Biden announced efforts to designate the Hudson Canyon in the Atlantic Ocean as a national marine sanctuary.

If the Hudson Canyon becomes a sanctuary, the federal government would have more say in the types of activities allowed in the area. The canyon is home to hundreds of wildlife species, many of which are threatened by human activities and the effects of climate change.

On Saturday, July 2nd, the U.S. will mark the 58th anniversary of the enactment of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964, which was the most significant civil rights legislation since Reconstruction.

It prohibited the segregation policies that relegated Black Americans to separate schools, restaurants, restrooms, and drinking fountains during the Jim Crow era.
