John — Last year, 10% of Florida’s manatee population was completely wiped out.

These gentle drifters are quietly dying off as environmental safety standards set in 1976 prove insufficient to protect their underwater homes and food supply. John, SEEC members are acting now to protect our most vulnerable species and ensure that our environment stays healthy — for seagrass-munchers like the manatees, and for us. DONATE [[link removed]]The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is set to publish new environmental standards for manatee habitats in 2024. But John, it’s evident that in the meantime, we’ll need to act fast to save the sea cows. Their habitats are facing an existential threat from nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, fertilizer runoff, and wastewater treatment.

Let's save these gentle creatures!562 manatees have died from environmental issues in the first five months of 2022. Clearly, keeping the existing population safe and healthy is imperative. Neighbors of the manatee — like sea turtles and mangrove-dwelling fish — would definitely agree.

That’s why SEEC member Rep. Darren Soto of Florida introduced the Manatee Protection Act which would upgrade manatees to the highest level of protection available under the Endangered Species Act. This would force the government to act more quickly to ensure their survival and would also open up additional federal resources.

SEEC members are working now to keep these populations safe and partnering with all kinds of environmental organizations looking to make real change for these ecosystems and the people that depend on them. Will you contribute now to keep them in Congress and committed to this mission, John? [[link removed]]

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
