When you were in school, did you ever feel like you didn’t belong?

Did your school have a safe space where you could be your authentic self, without fear of punishment?

Do you wonder how you can make an impact in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth?

We’re entering Pride month in the middle of a challenging year for our community, especially LGBTQ+ youth. We know our fight to protect students is far from over.

GLSEN has identified Four Supports that create safer and more inclusive school environments where LGBTQ+ students experience less harassment and discrimination and perform better academically.

(1) Comprehensive Policies
Our policy team is working around the clock to advocate for LGBTQ+ students. Last year alone, GLSEN helped defeat 32 harmful bills that would have negatively affected 12 million students.

(2) Supportive Educators
Supportive educators save lives. GLSEN’s vital resources and trainings continue to help educators support their students, even in the most difficult circumstances.

(3) Inclusive Curriculum
When LGBTQ+ youth are reflected in the curriculum, everyone’s well-being improves. GLSEN Rainbow Library provides LGBTQ+ affirming books to schools for free to more than 1.5 million students across 28 states.

(4) Gender and Sexuality Alliances
Student organizers are the most powerful base for creating change. GLSEN’s research shows that simply having a GSA in a school creates a more positive school climate for all students.

(5) YOU!
I said that GLSEN has Four Core Supports, and that’s true. But I also count supporters like you—who care deeply about the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ and other marginalized young people—as GLSEN’s fifth support.

Without you, our work couldn’t happen, and we wouldn’t be there to help vulnerable students and educators when they need us most.

Your support helps ensure that every member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Thank you,
