Subject: What Giving Tuesday means to me

Dear John,

This Giving Tuesday comes at an urgent moment.

The Trump-Pence administration is systematically attacking the reproductive rights and health care needs of women, communities of color, LGBTQ individuals, and those living at the margins of society.

But I know that ALL of the progress we’ve made to give survivors a voice, hold institutions accountable, and fight all forms of discrimination has been because of people that aren’t willing to sit back while our rights are stripped away — people like you.

So today, on Giving Tuesday, I hope you’ll join me in supporting the National Women’s Law Center — an incredible organization fighting on the frontlines for gender justice and the rights of every single woman and girl.

A group of generous donors has offered to match up to $40,000 in contributions, but there is one stipulation: we need 500 donors by midnight tonight.

John, don't ever, ever make the mistake of thinking to yourself, "I'm just one person. What could I possibly do to change sexism and oppression in this country?" I speak from experience: Women come forward when they know other women and allies will join them in solidarity. Your actions right now matter.

Fighting in court to stop the Trump administration from allowing employers to hide wage gaps and pay discrimination >>
Opposing extremist judges who would further this administration’s anti-choice agenda if confirmed >>
Protecting our wins, including stopping the Trump-Pence Refusal of Care rule, which would allow doctors to deny health care for women based on their personal and religious beliefs >>
Demanding fair work schedules and an end to unpredictable, volatile work schedules that make it impossible for working women to make ends meet and care for their families >>

Every time we demand equality, safety in the workplace, abortion access, fair pay… even when we don’t get the outcomes we hope for… these fights matter.

They matter because little girls are watching. They matter because the women who can’t speak up are watching. They matter because the country is watching.
