Dear Neighbors,
With gas prices soaring in recent weeks and no end in sight thanks to the disastrous energy policies of the Biden administration, many have turned their attention to electric vehicles (EVs).
Although they are more expensive to purchase, EVs in theory present a cheaper alternative to fossil fuel operated vehicles. However, people should be made aware that the critical minerals and metals needed to build the large batteries included in EVs are generally sourced from hostile foreign nations that have little environmental regulations and often employ child slave labor.
Because of this, mining these materials is having a significant environment and human cost.
Many of these critical metals and minerals could be mined in Northern Minnesota where environmental regulations are in place that would help prevent the extraordinary abuses that are taking place elsewhere. Unfortunately, instead of mining these materials in Minnesota, President Biden refuses to extend mineral leases that would let these projects move forward. So, for now, the president is choosing to empower foreign nations that use child slave labor instead of investing in the hardworking men and women of the Iron Range.
