Dear Friend of MCV,
Walking around my coastal Maine town, I see critical habitats and community landmarks that will be lost if we can’t keep pace with sea level rise.
The speed of sea level rise has accelerated to about 1 inch every 8 years, and the nuisance flooding that already impacts coastal communities is increasing dramatically. I fear for Maine’s endangered shorebirds, like Roseate Terns and Piping Plovers, that depend upon sandy beaches, dunes, barrier beaches, or salt marsh islands for their survival. I fear for our working waterfronts and harborside parks, which sustain our local economies and sense of place.
The impact of sea level rise on Maine’s communities, economies, and ecosystems depends on our success reducing emissions and building resilience now.
In this small window of opportunity open to us, Maine Conservation Voters’ staff are advocating for equitable climate and environmental solutions every day. Please join our monthly donor program, Kennebec Friends, to provide the support that we need to be the political voice for Maine’s environment throughout the entire year!

Partnership is a critical piece of our solution to the climate crisis and other environmental threats. Each legislative session, we convene the Environmental Priorities Coalition, a coalition of 39 committed Maine nonprofits, to collectively develop priority bills and then communicate those priorities to the legislature.
What I love about coalition work is the opportunity to practice communication, collaboration, and compromise with partners who share our core commitment to protecting Maine's environment and our climate future—and who bring very different perspectives to our collective work. Truly listening to and understanding each other’s unique perspectives and the concerns of our members – including many of you – as well as centering those most impacted by the threat of climate change and environmental injustices, is an essential step in building durable policy solutions that resonate with all Maine people and with our lawmakers!
The challenges we face are too big for any of us to solve alone, but together we are unstoppable.
Meeting the climate crisis and other threats to our environment at the scale that science and justice demand will take all of us. Please support this critical work—collaborating with partners, lobbying elected officials, scoring environmental votes, and running campaigns—throughout the year! [[link removed]]
Your support today [[link removed]] , in partnership with others, will have an impact on Maine people, our communities, and the many species – like Roseate Terns and Piping Plovers that call Maine home!
