Dear John,
I have watched every moment of the January 6 committee hearings, and so far, the revelations have been nothing less than explosive:
- John Eastman, the architect of the theory that former Vice President Mike Pence could single-handedly overturn the election, admitted what he did was both foolhardy and probably illegal. In fact, in the days following the deadly Capitol riot, he sought a presidential pardon.
-
Nearly everyone in Donald Trump’s inner circle, from Bill Barr to Bill Stepien to his own daughter Ivanka, knew the former president had lost the election. In taped testimony, Barr laughed off conspiracy theories and called Trump “detached from reality.”
-
Trump knew the truth. Even so, he incited a riot targeting Congress and Pence and did nothing to stop it. He fleeced his supporters to the tune of a quarter-billion dollars to pad his bank account.
The hearings continue today, and we’re sure to get more stunning evidence. But broadcasts take place mostly during the day, when many Americans can’t tune in.
That’s why Inequality Media Civic Action must work to get the truth out to as many people as possible across all our social media channels, where we have a huge reach — especially with young and unaffiliated voters.
Will you chip in to support our work to produce this high-quality content quickly, so that more people learn the truth about January 6?
The more people learn the truth about the insurrection, the more they support the committee’s continued investigation. And the more people support the investigation, the greater the chance that those responsible for January 6 are held accountable.
But while an impressive 20 million people watched the first hearing, which was held at night, less than half that number tuned in for the second. And we can’t blame them: It was held during a work day.
That’s why our content about the January 6 committee’s stunning findings is so important. Our team is working overtime to collect the January 6 committee’s most striking evidence, putting it together into brief, shareable video explainers for social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. That way everyone can hear the truth. And our fastest growing audience is young people, a critical demographic for changing outcomes at the ballot box.
Those responsible for January 6 — from Donald Trump on down — must be held accountable, and we must work to ensure that nothing like the Capitol attack ever happens again. For this to happen, huge swaths of Americans must learn the truth.
Will you make a special donation to help support our work and get the truth about January 6 to the American people?
Thanks for helping us defend our democracy,
Robert Reich
