Today is Giving Tuesday—the biggest fundraising day of the year for social causes. It’s about digging deep for organizations like Immigration Equality, which won my asylum case so I can live my life without fear of returning to homophobic violence in Venezuela. This is the biggest gift I’ve ever received, and I want to give back. Please join me in supporting Immigration Equality today so they can help others like me live openly and proudly.
Friend, after winning asylum, I was able to breathe for the first time. In Venezuela, I had to marry a woman to hide my sexual orientation. There was no safe space for me to express my sexuality without the threat of violence. And now that I no longer face those fears, I can focus on being my full self. My struggles are part of my story, but no longer define me. I am now a tried and true New Yorker. I am a fitness fanatic who loves Instagram. I am the proud son of my mother, Maria, an entrepreneur who inspires me every day.
With your support, Immigration Equality can win asylum for thousands more LGBTQ and HIV-positive refugees—so they can live their full lives, too. Take action by starting a Facebook fundraiser or making a donation.
I’m giving back by sharing my story, hoping to inspire you to give generously for a cause that is close to my heart. Every gift, big or small, helps save a life. And thanks to our matching gift, it will count double.
I realize that not everyone is active on social media, so if you’d like to give directly through Immigration Equality’s website, go here: imeq.org/gt.
Thanks for your support,
