After over a year of community pressure led by the #HomesNotHandcuffs coalition, Austin City Council voted on June 21 to end the criminalization of homelessness in our city. Help us continue to advocate for real solutions that help people and don’t criminalize our most vulnerable.
The Friends of Crystal City/Tsuru for Solidarity protest brought together Japanese-Americans, Muslim-Americans and Latinx community members to unite in solidarity with families fighting for their freedom in family detention camps, mobilizing thousands of people against mass incarceration over the course of the year.
Our annual Dancing Away Detention event was a huge success! Together we celebrated our shared victories and raised money for our community bond fund -- used to help reunite women locked away at T. Don Hutto with their loved ones and support our immigrant commmunity in Austin.
