Monday Nature Mystery
We are pleased to announce the winner of our last Monday Nature Mystery, LP Poppendeck! While Seth responded first and correctly, he is disqualified from winning again since he was our winner last week. Please email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to:

Congratulations to LP for correctly identifying the Bradford or Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). This species from China was planted all across the country and considered a perfect, sterile tree. However, as more cultivars were brought over, the Bradford Pears were able to reproduce with other non-sterile trees, producing hybrids that became very invasive, thorny, and destructive. Many towns are now removing this tree from their streets. Please do not plant, graft or sell this species!
