CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Governor DeSantis Re-Establishes Florida State Guard

On Wednesday, Governor DeSantis announced the re-establishment of the Florida State Guard and introduced retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Chris Graham as the new director of the emergency-focused civilian volunteer force.

By reestablishing the Florida State Guard, the state is expanding its ability to help people in times of need or disaster. Florida joins 22 other states and territories with state-level defense forces.and will add 400 members able to respond in a projected active hurricane season. More than 1,200 individuals have already expressed interest in joining.

“The U.S. military has been kicking out great service members over the Biden administration’s unacceptable COVID vaccine mandate, and they are even targeting members of the National Guard,” Governor DeSantis said. “The bureaucrats in D.C. who control our National Guard have also refused to increase the number of guardsmen despite our increasing population, leaving Florida with the second worst National Guardsman to resident ratio.”

Attorney General Moody Demands President Biden Stop Using School Lunches for Political Purposes

Attorney General Moody is demanding President Joe Biden withdraw a new directive that threatens to deny much-needed food programs to school-aged children. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s recent memo expanding federal law to include gender identity and sexual orientation in schools imposes unlawful regulatory measures on state agencies and operators.

“Using hungry children to advance a political agenda is appalling but not surprising given the way this administration has thumbed its nose at federal law and convention,” Attorney General Moody said. “We will not allow Joe Biden to threaten the health and wellbeing of Florida students.”

CFO Patronis Says Biden Finger-Pointing is Failing on Inflation

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis pointed out that there are real actions that the Biden Administration could take to reduce inflationary pressures, but won’t pursue any of them.

“As the poor and middle class continue having their savings siphoned away by historic inflation, the Biden Administration’s strategy of finger pointing has yet to deliver any results for anyone in the country,” CFO Patronis said. “There are millions of ways the federal government could reduce costs on American families by cutting regulations, supporting America’s energy sector, and addressing ongoing supply chain issues. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration is made of career bureaucrats who have never had to deal with signing paychecks, or starting and running a business.”

The U.S. Labor Department reported late last week that inflation hit 8.6% in May — the highest rate in 40 years. Under Governor DeSantis and Republicans in the Legislature, Florida is taking action, including the $200 million gas tax cut.
