Father's Day this year was extra special for our family. Not only was it an opportunity to celebrate my wonderful husband Christian, but it was also my dad’s birthday!

To put it simply, I would not be running for Congress without my father's inspiration. A Vietnam veteran, Jay Flaherty served as deputy mayor of Philadelphia at a challenging time for the city following the MOVE bombing. Doing everything possible for our community, no matter how hard or uncomfortable, was dinner time conversation throughout my childhood.

It was by attending speeches like the one shown above that I learned how to become a fighter: someone who believes that no institution or tradition or law or policy is too big to change. 

Running for Congress is not easy, but my dad taught me that doing the important work of fighting for our communities never is. And every dollar counts as we make our case to the people of NY-19.
