JOHN,
For me, the road to elected office didn’t run through Montpelier. When I was elected Vermont’s 82nd Lieutenant Governor, a lot of folks asked, “where did she come from?”. My answer was simple – I came from a small town in Orange County called Newbury.
I was born and raised on a vegetable and dairy farm still operated by my family today.
I’m the product of Vermont schools, from Newbury Elementary School through Vermont Law School. I’ve lived and worked in communities across the state, from Bethel to Rutland to Burlington.
I also know the challenges my generation faces. Like many, I’ve worked two jobs just to make ends meet. I’ve struggled with student loan debt, I’ve moved from apartment to apartment, and I’ve navigated caring for a sick loved one while trying to pay the bills.
It’s why I’ll be a champion for the diverse needs of our working families and rural communities in Washington. But I can’t get there alone – I’m going to need your help. [[link removed]]
I’ve committed my career to service at the state, national, and international level and have the experience to deliver for Vermont the day I’m sworn in.
I’ve spent nearly half a decade working in and with Congress, first with Rep. Peter Welch and then with the International Committee of the Red Cross. I understand the legislative process, how Congress works, and how to be responsive to Vermonters.
I’ve worked overseas to promote human rights and humanitarian assistance. With both the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the International Code of Conduct Association, I led policymakers and teams into complex environments including Haiti, Iraq and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With war raging in Ukraine and human rights and democratic values under assault around the world, Congress needs more foreign policy experts in the rooms where decisions are made.
I’ve worked to uphold and protect fundamental rights , both as a federal law clerk on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and as a Vermont Assistant Attorney General. With voting rights and reproductive rights under attack, I’ll be ready to put my legal background and training to immediate use in Congress.
I’ve served as Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor , presiding over the Vermont Senate, giving Vermonters a seat at the table and advocating tirelessly for the diverse needs of our communities from Pownal to Canaan and everywhere in between.
I’m running for Congress because I know that the challenges we face – from our workforce crisis to our housing shortage – will not be solved by Vermont alone.
I also know that we need leaders ready to protect our democracy and to bring our leadership on voting rights and reproductive rights to Washington.
I’m ready to bring my diverse background to Washington when we need it most, but it won’t happen without your support – will you chip in today? [[link removed]]
This state has made me who I am and it’s the honor of my life to work every day in service to Vermonters. With your support, we’ll elect the next generation of bold, Vermont leadership.
Yours,
Molly
