Baby birds, just a few days old, are being mutilated in UK zoos. So they can be used to entertain visitors.

How low will we sink to keep animals captive? Please help them!

In zoos and nature parks around the UK, thousands of baby birds like flamingos, storks and cranes are having their wings severed at just a few days old, simply so visitors can get close to them. 

We have exposed this barbaric practice, named ‘pinioning’ where newly born birds have the half of one wing amputated, leaving these poor chicks disabled for life. They will never be able to fly.

I am reaching out to you today to help save birds from this horrific fate. To join the fight to BAN this cruel practice. And make sure birds never lose their ability to fly.

Pinioning is carried out by slicing through the baby birds’ wings with a sharp tool and is usually done without anaesthetic or pain relief. This is a physical amputation of their bones, not just removing some feathers. Can you believe that? Zoos do this to birds to be able to keep them captive, so they can keep them in open ponds and give an impression that the birds are free. 

We have discovered that often zoos don’t even follow the basic law to have a vet carry out this procedure - unqualified zoo staff do the mutilating themselves.

We need to take urgent action to stop this. Please will you donate to help us end this horrific practice now, before other baby birds lose their wings forever?
