*Gov. Whitmer Continues to Fix the Damn Roads with Projects in **Iosco, Ogemaw, **Saginaw, Tuscola, **Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties S**tarting This Week*

"In 2022, Gov. Whitmer is making the largest investment in state roads and bridges in Michigan’s history" 

 

*LANSING, Mich. – *Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that major road projects are expected to begin this week in Iosco, Ogemaw, Saginaw, Tuscola, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects include the M-55 bridge repair project in Ogemaw and Iosco counties, the M-46 resurfacing project in Saginaw and Tuscola counties, the next phase of work on the M-17 resurfacing project in Washtenaw County and the Ann Arbor Road repair project in Wayne County*. *These investments are expected to support over 317 jobs.  

 

“Across Michigan, we are fixing the damn roads to save drivers time and money. These investments in Iosco, Ogemaw, Saginaw, Tuscola, Washtenaw and Wayne counties will support over 317 jobs and help drivers go to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “Since I took office through the end of 2022, we will have invested 70% more in our roads than the previous four years to fix over 16,000 lane miles of road and 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. Both my Rebuilding Michigan Plan and the bipartisan Building Michigan Together Plan are helping us build safe, reliable infrastructure that makes a difference for families and small business across the state. I hope you all like orange because you’ll be seeing a lot of cones and barrels this summer. I’m proud of what we have accomplished, so let’s keep moving dirt and getting it done." 

 

*M-55 Bridge Repair Project in Ogemaw and Iosco Counties* 

MDOT will invest $711,000 to repair three bridges on M-55 crossing the Au Gres River in Ogemaw and Iosco counties [ [link removed] ]. Work will include epoxy sealant, concrete barrier replacement, bridge foundation repair, deck patching, guardrail upgrades, and approach improvements.

Traffic restrictions: 



This work will require a single-lane closure at each bridge, with one lane of alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal. 

 

Mill Station Road will be closed from the start of work through late July, with traffic from M-65 detoured on Prescott Road, Mills Road, and Sage Lake Road; traffic from M-55 will be detoured on Sage Lake Road, Mills Road, and Prescott Road. 



Safety benefit: 



This work will protect the structural integrity and extend the service life of the bridges. 



 

*M-46 Resurfacing Project in Saginaw and Tuscola Counties* 

MDOT will invest $10.3 million to resurface 10.5 miles of M-46 from Towerline Road in Saginaw County to Richville Road in Tuscola County [ [link removed] ]. Work includes shoulder widening, pavement repairs, concrete curb and gutter, guardrail, drainage improvements, and pavement markings. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 133 jobs.

*Next Phase of Work on M-17 Resurfacing Project in Washtenaw County* 

MDOT is investing approximately $11 million to resurface M-17 between Huron Street and Summit Road. As part of this work, MDOT will be closing both Huron Street ramps to I-94 [ [link removed] ] beginning Monday for rebuilding. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 140 jobs.

* Southbound Huron Street traffic will be detoured via the US-12 ramp to eastbound I-94.

* Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

This traffic configuration will increase safety for workers and motorists through this work zone. 



 

*Ann Arbor Road Repair Project in Wayne County* 

MDOT is investing $2.7 million to repair Ann Arbor Road between Canton Center Road and Napier Road [ [link removed] ] in Plymouth Township. Work includes pavement conditioning along with milling and refilling the 3-mile stretch, Americans with Disabilities Act ramp upgrades at each side street intersection along Ann Arbor Road, guardrail work, new signs, and pavement markings. Based on economic modeling, this $2.7 million investment is expected to support 34 jobs.

This work will improve the driving surface of the road and extend the life of the roadway. 



 

*Rebuilding Michigan Plan* 

Since Governor Whitmer took office through the end of 2022, Michigan will have repaired, rebuilt, or replaced 16,000 lane miles of road and over 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. In April, Governor Whitmer signed the Building Michigan Together Plan [ [link removed] ], a bipartisan plan to invest nearly $5 billion in Michigan’s infrastructure, grow the economy, create jobs, and benefit families in every region of the state. The Building Michigan Together Plan calls for critical investments of $645 million in Michigan’s infrastructure, including $317 million for road and bridge programs, benefitting both state and local projects.
