ICYMI: What Makes Pride

In 2021, PFLAG National released What Makes Pride, a five-part series dedicated to uplifting the work and lives--and sharing the stories--of LGBTQ+ BIPOC people, communities, and grassroots organizations.

PFLAG National serves as an ally and signal booster with this series, which elevates conversations and organizers doing the work central not just to Pride celebrations and advocacy, but to growing and strengthening personal Pride in meaningful ways.

Hosted by author/producer/educator Melissa Harris-Perry, host of WNYC/NPR's The Takeaway, and founder of the Anna Julia Cooper Project, each episode of the series covers an issue of importance, including Pride, housing justice, incarceration, community and art, and family.

Three Steps to Lead Like Jeanne

This Saturday, June 25th, marks the 50th anniversary of PFLAG founder, Jeanne Manford, marching with her gay son, Morty, at the Christopher Street Liberation Day March. We are encouraging everyone to lead with love and lead like Jeanne this Pride. Here are three ways to help you do that, as an advocate and ally. 

1. Learn: Read “A Moment That Sparked a Movement,” from the June 2022 issue of the PFLAG National PFLAGPole, which offers a more in-depth history of Jeanne Manford, her son activist Morty Manford, and the beginning of the organization now known as PFLAG.  
2. Watch: Making Gay History, a great podcast by historian Eric Marcus, has two episodes that speak to the ways Jeanne Manford and her son lead in the movement for LGBTQ+ justice and equality. Season 1 episode 6 is an interview with Jeanne and Morty; Season 3, episode 11 is an interview with Morty; and a special bonus episode: Check out Paulette Goodman, leading like Jeanne as the former president of PFLAG National. 
3. Share: Share the story of Jeanne and Morty Manford, and YOUR plans to lead like Jeanne by leading with love, across your social media, using hashtag #LeadWithLove. Consider sharing the above content on your social media feeds so that your networks can learn more about PFLAG and our powerful roots in grassroots advocacy and activism.

Keep up the pressure: Make calls for Equality!

Have you signed up to join us in making weekly calls for equality? Now is the time!

We're making weekly calls into Senate offices to tell them we need federal anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people before Summer Recess. We need to make sure Senators hear from us--people who care about LGBTQ+ equality– saying we urge them to take action NOW. Even if your Senators are allies, call them, email them, and tweet them your thanks; they need to know that the majority of people in this country support protections from discrimination.

Something to Talk About...Live!

Repro Rights and LGBTQ+ Rights

PFLAG supports the right to privacy and to self-determination in reproductive healthcare for all people, including LGBTQ+ people and their families. And if Roe v. Wade is reversed the impact on people who are LGBTQ+ may go beyond their reproductive health.
